What is Hot & Cold Stone Massage? This form of bodywork combines regular massage with the use of heated and/or cooled stones applied to your
body in various ways to bring relaxation and comfort to stiff and sore tissues. Alternating hot and cool stones
helps your body to receive more oxygen and nutrients and encourages a more effective removal of toxins. Stone
massage can also offer a gentle approach to bodywork for those who do not enjoy deep tissue work.
Joy uses stones hand picked from the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Benefits of Hot Stone Massage - Deep warmth, comfort and relaxation, both physically and mentally
- Reduced stress,
relieving mental and physical fatigue
- Improved circulation and increased blood supply in muscles,
improving function
- Toxins and waste are eliminated more quickly
- The
warmth can relieve pain in muscles and joints
- Decreased tension in connective tissue
Benefits of Cold Stone Massage - Refreshes and
stimulates the mind and body
- Helps to relieve tissue congestion (such as the sinuses)
- Soothes irritation
- Cools down the body on a warm day or during hot flashes
Does it hurt? No. The stones will provide a gentle and nurturing warmth
throughout your body. Joy handles the stones herself before placing them on your body so she will be sure they are at
the right temperature. If they do feel too hot at any time, the temperature can be reduced.
